Learn to Knit  

Thursdays: March 8 and 15 (6-8 PM) $35 class fee + kit

This class is where it all begins. Create two fun projects while learning to cast on, knit, purl and bind off – the skills from which every knitting project is built – as well as increase and decrease.  Along with the actual act of knitting, we will cover the basics of gauge, pattern reading, and knitting materials. You will leave this class with the quality knowledge you need to complete beginner level knitting projects and start building a lifelong love of knitting.

Brioche Cowl full - accepting wait list requests
Saturday: February 18 (10 AM-noon) $25 class fee + supplies (pattern included)

Looking to add another fun technique to your knitting toolkit? Try brioche! Brioche uses combinations of slipped stitches & yarnovers to create a lofty, completely reversible fabric. We’ve come up with a fresh, simple brioche cowl so you can learn the technique with ease. Choose from a variety of fun Spud & Chloë color combinations to create a project that is uniquely yours while learning this popular technique!

Toe-Up Socks

Tuesdays: February 21 (6-8 PM) and March 6 (6–8:30 PM) $35 class fee + supplies

If you’ve wanted to learn how to knit toe-up socks, now’s your chance!  We will walk you through the steps of knitting a quality toe-up sock including: casting on, toe increasing and heel construction.  Sock knitting is fun and we have an amazing selection of yarn colors waiting to inspire you!

Cabled Mug Cozy

Tuesdays: February 28 (6-8 PM) $25 class fee + supplies

Cables are an unmistakable design element familiar to knitters & non-knitters alike.  We’ll teach you everything you need to know to knit basic cables – from reading cable patterns to performing the actual cabling technique. Our class project is a cabled mug cozy and uses one of our favorite yarns, Spud & Chloë Sweater! This mug cozy is not only a great introduction to cabling, it also makes a fabulous gift!

Magic Loop

Tuesday: March 13 (6-8 PM) $20 class fee + supplies

Learn Magic Loop & forget about your double-pointed needles!  We will introduce you to the Magic Loop technique of using one long circular needle instead of a set of DPNs to knit in the round – great for small circumferences.  Imagine leaving your DPNs and the ladders behind when you knit hats, mitts, socks, and more. If you’ve thought there must be an easier way to knit in the round, there is, and this class is for you!

Two-Color Knitting/Stranding

Saturday: March 31 (Noon-3 PM) $30 class fee + supplies

Learn two-color knitting/stranding and support local designer Amy E. Anderson. You will learn the basic techniques of knitting with two colors – reading color charts, holding & alternating between two yarns at the same time, and how to correctly apply tension to avoid ‘puckering’. This pattern makes it easy for you to create either a hat or headband while learning a fun new technique!

Market Bag 2.0

Tuesdays: April 3 (6-8:30 PM) and April 17 (6-7:30 PM) $35 class fee + supplies

Ready for summer?  We are! Get ready for warmer days and knit your very own Market Bag. We are back this year with an all new, original design. This bag is packed full of techniques to add to your knitting toolkit and can easily be applied to other projects - Judy’s Magic Cast-on, invisible increases, and grafting with Kitchener Stitch.  Designed for both strength and style, you might find yourself going to the Farmer’s Market just to show off your bag!

Two-at-a-Time

Tuesday: April 10 (6-8 PM) $20 class fee + supplies

Do you knit the first half of your pair projects (socks, mittens, sleeves), but when it comes to the second you struggle to complete the set? If you answered yes, you need to learn to knit two-at-a-time in the round with us. When knitting two-at-a-time you will not only finish both pieces at the same time, you also guarantee they are exactly the same. Say goodbye to half-done projects by learning to work and finish both halves at the same time!

Knitting in the Round - Fingerless Mitts 

Tuesday: March 27 (6-8 PM) $20 class fee + supplies full 

OR

Tuesday: April 24 (6-8 PM) $20 class fee + supplies

Take your knitting to the next level and discover the joy of knitting in the round! While working on fun fingerless mitts we will cover the basics – casting on with double-pointed needles, joining and knitting in the round. We will also discuss why knitting in the round is so wonderful, when to use your new skills & show you how to apply what you learn in class to knitting with circular needles. If you haven’t tried knitting in the round yet, this class is a must.

Pattern and Chart Reading

Saturday: April 14 (1-3 PM) $20 class fee + supplies

Do you feel like you are reading a foreign language when you read patterns? Come to our pattern and chart reading session and let us help you understand the knitting abbreviations, lingo, and hieroglyphics the pattern writers/designers use.  We will cover the basics of understanding both written and charted patterns, from beginning to end, and provide you with helpful tips for selecting quality patterns.

Skills needed to be successful in this class: Basic knitting skills including knitting and purling.

Top-Down Socks on Circular Needles

Saturday: April 28 (Noon-3 PM) $30 class fee + supplies

Top-down sock knitters, if you know Magic Loop or knitting in the round on 2 circs, why not learn to apply these skills to your sock knitting? Building on what you already know, our class will walk you through the ‘ins and outs’ of understanding how to translate a DPN pattern to work the heel flap, heel turn & gusset all on circular needles. We’ve paired a well-written pattern with a fabulous sport weight yarn for a classically styled sock that knits up quickly.

Skills needed to be successful in this class: Magic Loop or 2 Circular Needle Technique, Previously successfully knit top down socks with a heel flap and gusset construction, Pattern reading

If a class you want to take is full, please contact us with your name, phone number and email and we'll add you to the waitlist for that class - when we receive enough requests, we will run another class and you will have the opportunity to register in advance. 

Firefly Fibers Class Policy Statement  

We have small class sizes to ensure the best possible learning experience for you. Classes start on time and we welcome you to arrive early.

 If a class you want to take is full, please contact us to be put on a waitlist - when we receive enough requests, we will run another class and you will have the opportunity to register in advance.   

Payment is required at time of registration to reserve your seat. Please check your schedule before registering as class fees are non-refundable; there is no refund/credit or make-up class for missed classes.    

 Class fees are for instruction. Supplies are in addition to class fees, unless specified in class description. Materials list is available with class registration. All brand specific items must be purchased at Firefly Fibers for the class you are taking (not a prior purchase).

Register early, if class minimums are not met, Firefly Fibers may cancel or reschedule classes.  

In the case of inclement weather, Firefly Fibers bases class cancellations on the National Weather Service weather and travel warnings – the shop will contact you by phone to notify you of the cancellation. Classes cancelled due to inclement weather will be rescheduled. If you have questions on the status of your class, please call us at the shop.
